Screw compressors with variable speed drive - VSD

Since when fifteen years ago, Atlas Copco introduced the first compressor driven by variable speed drive (VSD), more and more customers are convinced to this technology and draws from its benefits. VSD system regulates engine speed of compressor so that its performance match up to the current demand for compressed air. This allows the customer to pay only for the quantity of compressed air that actually is used and needed. VSD technology brings savings of up to 35%.

Atlas Copco currently produces third generation of compressors that use this innovative technology.
Both the wide range of options available (FullFeature - integrated dryer, WorkPlace - compressor adapted to the location directly at the point of receiving air, TankMounted - building on the tank ) and a vast range of available power (from 5.5 to 900 kW), combined with years of experience makes Atlas Copco a leader in its industry. Method of operation variable speed drive is the following:
The electronic controller Elektronikon compares the pressure value that has been programmed with the value of the pressure in the installation. If due to higher air intake pressure in the installation will begin to fall, electronic controller automatically increase engine speed and increases air flow delivered by the compressor. Similarly, when the demand for compressed air decreases system automatically reduces engine speed and the amount of air supplied is reduced. VSD compressors series provides soft start. They use a pressure transducer that meets the requirements of the 89/336/EEC standards. VSD compressors are not sensitive to electromagnetic fields from other devices.VSD  themselves also do not emit electromagnetic fields. They are completely safe and can work with other electrical and electronic devices.

In most manufacturing processes, usage of compressed air is variable depending on time of day, day of week or even, depending on the month of the year. By using breakthrough technology with adjustable drive speed - Atlas Copco provides significant savings in total cost of consumed energy.
